Triphala is a mixture of the dried fruits of the following t hree plants native to southern region of India.
The traditional way of ingesting triphala is as a tea. This method allows one to taste the herb fully, and taste is considered by Ayurveda and Sidha to be an important part of the healing process.
-Amla More commonly known as Indian gooseberry,
-Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)
-Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
The mixture of above three herbs are from 4000 years old Sidha and Ayurveda Laxative ingredients. The traditional Triphala only contains equal mixture of the above herbs unlike the claims of some profit oriented marketing tactics.
Triphala is most commonly known for its use as a gentle bowel tonic, being helpful in digestion, and supporting regular bowel movements. The combination of the three fruits has a synergistic effect to bolster many other systems as well.
